How to use a manumatic shift in a Hyundai?

I have a Hyundai Sonata 2009 with manumatic shift. I need to know when to use it, if it is better than automatic, and what are the benefits of it over automatic.|||It is an automatic. It's just one that has more driver control over what gear is chosen. You can leave it in drive and it's an auto or use sport mode and have more control over shift points. It won't let you overrev the engine or kill it when you come to a stop and forget you're in sport like a manual would if you forget to put the clutch in. It will however stay in 1st all the way to about 6K RPM when you start off from a stop so you'll get a little surprise if you forgot you were in sport. I do that once in a while. I use mine generally for engine braking on downhill grades or to bleed off speed to match a signal that's going to go green soon. Saves the brakes. I'd say engine braking is a benefit, as is a little sportier feel if you're doing a mountain road and want to keep the engine RPMs up for better response out of sharp curves. Most times I just leave it in drive. Just remember it is an automatic, all they've done is added a user "request" to the gear selection process and some nanny code in the PCU to make sure you don't overrev or bog the engine. It will upshift if it doesn't detect a shift request from you and the RPMs cross it's normal full throttle shift point.|||You can use it to manually shift by flipping the lever over to the right and forward to shift up or back to shift down. I like to start out in second gear because it's smoother. In slippery conditions, starting out in second will help to not spin the wheels too.

Play with it for a while and you may just love it.
