Does Hyundai cover timing belt replacement under its warranty as I'm the original owner of a 2003 Elantra?

I have a 2003 Hyundai Elantra GT with about 63000 miles driven. I was wondering if the timing belt needs to be changed even though I don't drive it hard. If so, does Hyundai cover timing belt replacement under the warranty as I'm the original owner of the car. Also, I bought this car after graduation in TX but currently live in CA. Thanks.|||Yes you need to replace it. It connects your camshafts to your crank shaft. If your belt breaks or stretches your valves can hit the pistons and destroy your engine if its an interference engine. If its not an interference engine your car just wont run. Those repairs wont be covered by warranty because you didn't follow the maintenance schedule so the damage is your fault.

Warranty covers manufacturing and assembly defects not maintenance.|||it depends on your warranty. Call the service center and ask. They will be able to pull your information up and tell you if it is or not. They will also be able to tell you what recalls are needed on the car. If it is a recalled item, they will repair it for free.|||hi,yes it does cover it,but only if you have had the car serviced by hyundai, they seem to have a great small print clause when you buy. i know i own a accent 5 dr 03. im in the uk,|||I would not think so as this would fall into a category of wearable items such as tires, brakes, belts, filters, etc. A warranty is a warrent/protection to you against mfg defects or parts that defect or wear out prematurely. A scheduled maint. such as a timing belt is not a defect as long as it didn't break ahead of its scheduled replacement and still in you warranty period.|||First you need to call the Hyundai dealership and ask them that question. But I would safely tell you that I don't think it is covered. That is a maintenance item. I don't know your warranty, but even on a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty they do not cover that repair.|||go over your contract. read every word on your warranty. that explains whats covered and whats not. my friend had the same issue. atleast here they said they didnt cover it. the 10 yr 100k isnt bumper to bumper that long. the bumper to bumper is only for 50k i believe. after that its just drivetrain.|||nope it is a normal wear item-not covered|||The timing belt needs to be changed every 60000 miles.I t is not covered under a warranty and make be very costly and very time consuming because it takes about 3 hrs to complete. I know, I've been there and done that.|||I have read somewhere that some people were able to replace it under warranty but I think it's up to the dealer. All dealers aren't the same so you may want to call a # of them until you find one that may do it for you. Worth the time to save some cash.

Don't listen to JP Junior. This is just one of Sun Yao Lin's other Yahoo accounts s/he opened recently.|||No, that's an expendable like tires.|||Timing belts are a wear item, covered by a 5year/60,000 basic coverage. When these belts jump time or break they will do damage- bending valves, damaging the cylinder head and/or pistons. Not cheap. I would also recommend having the 60,000 mile service done too, check your owners manual, look under severe service because 99 out of 100 cars fall under this area. Very good cars if properly maintained.

A Hyundai/Kia Tech.|||Its 5 years old and a Hyundai. Throw it away|||Yes they do, if its under warranty.|||I suggest looking in the owners manual or calling the local dealer. This is not a warranty item and you will need to pay for it. If the car is due for a new belt then get it done. Some of these engines are "Interference Engines" which means that if the belt fails the engine will do great damage to it self.

I also suggest that if the water pump is located down in under the timing belt I recommend getting it changed also. The reason for this is that the labor to change the belt might be a lot of money. Now if you have the belt changed then the water pump fails you will have to pay all of that labor again.

Its cheaper to install any parts that are down in that area while the engine is apart.

The dealer can tell you when the belt is due for replacement and the cost. You can then call some of the garages around your area to get an estimate from them. Any good mechanic can do this repair.|||NO the timing belt is NOT covered under warranty - it is a serviceable item. No manufacturer will cover a timing belt under warranty as it is a service procedure.

Your service manual that you get when you buy your car tells you what you need to change and at what service. Being the original owner you should have a manual.

In Australia the timing belt is recommended to be replaced at 90,000km or 5 years which ever comes first.

If you do not replace the timing belt within this period and the belt breaks you are up for big $$$$ as the valves will hit the pistons and your warranty will cover NOTHING!

Its a more expensive service but its a small cost to do that as opposed to possibly rebuilding your engine!

If something causes your belt to wear eg: a tensioner collapsed etc then it will be warrantable but you are at the mileage where this needs replacing.|||LOL......So many misinformed people. The Timing belt is never covered. A TIMING CHAIN is the only type that is covered on not only a Hyundai but on most cars. The timing belt on a Hyunda as in most other vehicles is supposed to be changed at the 60,000 mile service.

The newer 6 cylinder Hyundai will have a timing CHAIN. That is covered for 10 years/100,000 miles.
